Cold comfort pharm

Our latest article on refrigerants and testing of laboratory refrigerated cabinets was recently published by Laboratory News (https://labnews.co.uk/cold-comfort-pharm/). The article covers what manufacturers must do to comply with refrigerant regulations that restrict the use of fluorinated refrigerants and high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants. Laboratory equipment needs to operate using refrigerants with a GWP of less than 150 (except for some derogations) and this can require updating and modifying systems to ensure compliance. In addition, many lower GWP refrigerants are flammable or mildly flammable and so safety testing is essential to ensure that equipment complies with safety standards.

The article also covers the new test standard that is being developed for testing of refrigerators and freezers for laboratory and medical applications (for more information click here to see our recent article on the standard).

At RD&T we are increasingly getting involved in assisting manufacturers to convert to low GWP refrigerant options and to check the safety of refrigeration equipment. Therefore, if you would like to have a chat about refrigerant conversion and refrigerant safety, please do contact RD&T’s Judith Evans (j.a.evans@rdandt.co.uk).
