The Energy Technology List – promoting energy efficient products
Making greener choices is not only good for the planet it can be good for your finances as well. Saving energy by purchasing the most efficient equipment is a great way to make sure you tick both environmental and financial boxes. However, it is not always easy making the right choice.
Independent advice can really help end users make informed choices. The UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Energy Technology List (ETL) (ETL list) provides assurance that products do what is claimed. The ETL is one of the world’s largest databases of energy-saving technologies and provides easy access to around 8,000 tested and assessed energy efficient products.
If you are an equipment manufacturer of one of the 21 product categories listed on the ETL, the database can provide evidence that your products are energy efficient (the ETL claim that they only list the top 25% most energy efficient products in the market in their class). The database has some level of independent verification and so this provides assurance to customers.
Within the product categories, there are many refrigeration technologies. The “Refrigeration equipment” product category includes 12 technologies, including refrigerated display cabinets, retrofit measures for open fronted display cabinets and professional refrigerated storage cabinets.
Listing on the ETL is free and requires the following documents:
- Application checklist
- Technical specification
- ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification
- Declaration of conformity
- Test report (conformity requirements vary and are listed at: ELT application advice)
Generating these documents can initially be daunting and so at RD&T we can help you through the process of creating/producing them. We can also provide independent test reports and even help you improve the energy efficiency of your products (if needed). We have extensive experience of testing products including retail display cabinets, beverage coolers and professional refrigeration to the relevant standards (BS EN ISO 23953, BS EN ISO 22044 and BS EN 16825/22041). We can offer a full testing service in our environmental test rooms, verification of your test reports or witness testing of your own tests (RD&T testing services). We can also help check and test refrigerant safety of appliances as well as help convert appliances to environmentally friendly refrigerants.
Perhaps you have a product that you are unsure of its performance or need to improve to meet the thresholds to be listed on the ETL. If so, please do give us a call, we have a great track record in helping to improve products to get the best tests results.
