Ed Hammond named as Food Engineer of the Year

Congratulations go to RD&T’s Ed Hammond who has recently been named as IMechE Food Process Engineer of the Year. The prize sponsored by the PM Group is awarded each year for the best paper relating to the food industry. Ed won the prize for his pioneering work on design of air curtains for refrigerated retail display cabinets. His work has investigated the use of variable length air curtains in retail display cabinets as a means to reduce energy consumption and improve temperature control. The prestigious award is presented annually by the IMechE Food Engineering Committee and is a joint activity between the IMechE and the IFST.

Further information about Ed’s work was presented at the IIR (International Institute of Refrigeration) International Cold Chain Conference being held in Cambridge on 30 and 31 March 2010.
