Get ready for Energy Using Products Directive (EuP)
Minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) are currently being developed for a number of refrigerated appliances. These mean that manufacturers can only sell products within Europe that exceed the MEPS. Manufacturers need to be prepared to ensure that their products reach these MEPS. Consultation documents from Lot 1 (Refrigerating and Freezing Equipment) have recently been published.
If you manufacture plug-in service cabinets, plug-in blast cabinets, plug-in walk-in cold room, remote condensing units and chillers you should be interested in the outputs of this work as it will lead to performance standards used as part of the EuP. A number of technologies are listed that have been identified to save energy and so these may form the basis of any future MEPS that will be applied across Europe.
